Dalhousie Trip Plan: The Places I Want to Visit First
Editor | March 14, 2026 | 3 min read
Dalhousie has been on my list for a while, and this is the small, focused loop I want to do first. I am keeping it simple: one classic meadow, one ridge-and-view route, and one quiet temple stop.
My First-Visit Shortlist
1. Khajjiar (Mini Switzerland)
This is the iconic stop I do not want to skip. Khajjiar is known for its open meadow and forest edge, and it is widely called the “Mini Switzerland” of India. I want to spend an unhurried hour here, walk the meadow edge, and just take the scene in without over-planning the stop.
2. Dainkund Peak to Jot (Views and Wind)
This is the stretch I am most excited about. Dainkund is the highest peak in the Dalhousie area and is known for big, layered valley views. The road to Dainkund is on the Dalhousie–Khajjiar side, so I want to combine it in the same day as Khajjiar if timing works.
From there, I want to push onward to Jot for the open ridge feeling and wide views. Jot is described as a hilltop with commanding panoramas over the valley, so this is where I plan to slow down and just sit for a while.
3. Pohlani Mata Temple (Quiet Stop Near Jot)
Near Jot, there is a small Pohlani Mata temple, which I want to visit briefly and respectfully. It sounds like a low-key, peaceful pause rather than a crowded landmark, and that is exactly the mood I want between viewpoints.
How I Plan to Pace It
I want this to feel like a slow travel day: early start, long tea breaks, and no pressure to “collect” everything. If I can get Khajjiar and Dainkund done well in one day, I will call it a win. Jot and the temple visit can take the rest of the afternoon.
What I Want to Remember
This trip is less about checklists and more about light, silence, and scenery. If the skies are clear, I will spend extra time at the viewpoints. If the clouds roll in, I will just take the mood and move on.
